Welcome to Primary one
Mrs. Smith is our P1 teacher and our classroom assistant is Christine. P1 is a very busy classroom as a lot of our learning takes place through play. We love to explore, problem solve and practically engage in our literacy and numeracy task time. In numeracy we work on numbers to ten and beyond, early addition and subtraction, pattern, sorting, measures, shape etc. We use jolly phonics in literacy to help us learn our sounds so that we can spell and read. A huge part of P1 is learning how to write our numbers and letters properly. The topics that we explore in P1 include people who help us, fairy tales, dinosaurs and the farm. We also take part in shared education which means we get to play and have trips with our friends from St. Malachy’s. P1 get to go on lots of fun trips during the year including the beach, the forest, the fire station and the farm. It’s a very busy year, where we have lots of fun and make great new friends.
