Nursery Information
Cuilrath Corner Nursery School was opened in 1999 as a result of the North Eastern Education and Library Board working in partnership with the Health and Social Services Trust, to provide, in a joint venture, a combined Nursery Education and Children and Family Centre.
Cuilrath Corner is an integrated nursery unit primarily feeding Harpur’s Hill and St Malachy’s Primary Schools and offers 26 full-time places. The Principal of the nursery unit is Mr. D. Radcliffe. Mrs. K. Houmann-Green is the teacher in charge, who is ably assisted by Mrs L. Gibson and Miss A. McCreadie; all having years of teaching experience and working with young children.
Our children follow a progressive programme of educational activities encompassing the usual areas of learning … personal, social, emotional, physical, and intellectual. The holistic nature of the nursery curriculum provides many opportunities for individuals or small groups of children to work on topics of particular interest to them throughout the year. A feature of our nursery is the creative approach to learning, which we adopt.
Parental input is highly valued and encouraged, with parents working in partnership with the nursery in a variety of ways, e.g. activity days, parent/teacher meetings, outings, cooking, workshops and fund-raising events.
Our nursery aims to promote the development of self-esteem and independence. By providing opportunities for success, we endeavour to foster a sense of pride and achievement in everything done. We also aim to provide a happy, caring and stimulating environment, in which positive attitudes to learning are encouraged.
